PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE CERTIFICATION
Two Year Professional Musical Theatre Certification

The Musical Theatre Training Institute at Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre is excited to offer a two-year professional musical theatre certificate program for ages 14 to adult. The certification program provides a solid, high-level training for those seeking a career in the world of professional musical theatre.

Our professional musical theatre certificate program starts with three foundational classes and an auditions class. All three foundational classes are required in order to continue in the certification program. Each foundational class is a prerequisite for future advanced classes.

Students who are seeking certification can do so in two, three or four years. Choosing to take classes outside of the certification structure still requires completion of the three foundational classes to move on to advanced level classes. Certification also requires additional credits in Special Offerings, Performances, Tech work and more.

Foundational Classes

Our certificate program begins with three foundational classes: Acting for Musical Theatre #001, Voice for Musical Theatre #001, and Tech for Musical Theatre #001. Through all three of these classes, students will receive a foundation (or refresher for adult students) in these disciplines. Once students complete these three classes they will choose a performance track to include acting, voice, and dance or a technical track to include work in costuming, stage management, lighting, sound, and more.

In addition to our three foundational classes every student, regardless of tech or performance track, is required to take  Professional Musical Theatre #001 and Hair & Makeup #001. By taking all five of these courses, students will have a baseline to grow and continue their journey with advanced classes.

Advanced Classes

Our advanced level courses will build on what students have learned in foundational classes. All advanced level courses will require the three foundational classes to be completed regardless of tech or performance track. Advanced level courses include work and growth in voice, dance, acting, stage management, lights, sound, sets and more.

Additional credit requirements

All students will be required to fulfill credits in various additional categories tailored to their track (performance or tech). These requirements will range from sessions with working professionals in the world of musical theatre and internships, to performance and tech fulfillments, intensives, master classes and more. The aim of this requirement is to allow students a well rounded education filled with real experience, advice from mentors, peer discussions, and networking opportunities.
